REGISTRATION

1; when registering for an account, please use the first and last name of your character

e.g. hermione granger, not xoxilovehpxox

if you make a mistake, please PM an admin and they will be more than happy to change it for you

you are more than welcome to register an account using your characters first, middle and last names, as sometimes it flows better that way

2; characters MUST come from the [url=]canon character list[/url]

3; there will be a maximum of two characters per person.

if you have two characters and would like more, you must first have 50 posts from your first character and 25 posts from your second character

you must also PM an admin to request permission

please bear in mind that the admins may be reluctant to allow you a third/fourth/fifth/etc. character if you have not proven you are able to handle the responsibility

4; please ensure only one character per account

5; please fill out the application and post it in the ‘pending applications’ forum

do not post anywhere else until an admin accepts your application

6; if your application is not accepted on your first try, this will usually be because it is not as developed as we hope

please note that if this is the case, you will be given a chance to edit/fix up anything on your application, which will then be re-reviewed and a decision will be made

7; when registering on Turn On The Light, you are making a commitment

please do not make an account and then leave with no warning, as that is rude

CHARACTERS

1; the admins highly discourage the dropping of characters

2; if you wish to drop a character, please PM an admin with your reason

please note that dropping a character will discourage the admins from accepting any future characters you may wish to create

3; any special abilities (animagi, veela, werewolf, vampire, etc.) can be found on the canon list

anyone creating a character from a family with no special abilities may not give their character said special abilities unless permission has been obtained from an admin

please note that the admins are highly unlikely to grant special abilities to a character who doesn’t already have them

there will be special rules set down for vampires, as they are not to go around sucking the blood of everyone at the school

POSTING AND CONTENT

1; once again, until you have been accepted by an admin, please do not post in any topic or forum excepting your own application

please note you may also post in the cbox

2; all posts are required to be done in third person

this is not a story about you, this is a story about your character

3; here at Turn On The Light, we do not have a specific length for your posts, however please remember that this is a literate forum

do not post one sentence and be done with it; please ensure you at least have a decent paragraph with something your roleplaying partner can respond to

please remember that you can add what your character is thinking, feeling, doing, etc. into your posts

4; please remember that although AU, Turn On The Light is set in the Harry Potter universe

yes, it is set in the distant future, but witches and wizards will still have no idea what an iPod/mp3 player/any electronic device is unless they are muggle born

5; while the admins are not against explicit content, please make note in your thread title if there will be anything above PG

with this in mind, we do not need to go into the dirty details of sex scenes; the lead up to it is fine, but please skip the horizontal tango

6; do not “bump” topics

this means, do not post “bump” in your thread

do not double post to make your thread move along faster

if you are waiting for a reply, the other person/people will get to it in their own time

7; if the Turn On The Light goes down for any reason, please ensure all posts are copied and pasted into a word document as you write them

this will save any heartache over losing a post that took you hours and hours to write

8; DO NOT, at any time, take control of another person’s character unless that person has specifically given you permission to do so

this is called god-moding, and the admins frown upon it

DUELLING

1; do not start a duel with another character unless you have plotted it out with that person OOC

2; to avoid god-moding during duels, there will be a system you can use to decide the outcome

if your character hexes/curses/jinxes another character, PLEASE DO NOT roleplay the outcome in your post

instead, the hexed/cursed/jinxed person will flip a coin (you can go HERE for an easy online coin-flipper) to see if they were hit or not

heads = hit! you must post as though your character were hit by the hex/curse/jinx
tails = evaded! post as though your character has avoided being hit

please be honest about the outcome

CHATBOX

1; the chatbox, located on the left hand side of every page, is designed purely as an out of character chat forum

2; there are two ways the chatbox can become a legitimate roleplaying arena:

the admins (Ree and Ren) announce that the chatbox will be IC (in character) for a specific duration of time

the entirety of those chatting in the chatbox agree that they will all roleplay in the chatbox

in the event that the chatbox is used as a roleplaying arena, please specify whether the events that occur will affect the canon timeline

please ensure you use some form of OOC when the chatbox has become a roleplaying arena

GENERAL

1; any plot ideas that will affect the forum as a whole must be submitted to an admin through PM

2; please do not request an admin or moderator position

these positions are earned, not given away

3; this should really go without saying, but the admins do not condone nor approve of members harassing other members

in-character drama is fine, in fact it is welcomed, however OOC drama will not be tolerated

should a member have a problem with another member, please PM an admin and we will be glad to help you through your problem

should any harassment of any kind happen in the cbox, the admins will not hesitate to block your I.P. address and revoke your OOC chatting rights

4; Turn On The Light is not a canon Harry Potter roleplay

we are completely AU

please ensure no characters are related to any major canon characters

5; please be aware that the admins do have lives outside of Turn On The Light

we will accept applications and reply to threads as quickly as we can

please do not harass us about accepting your application, as it will most likely result in us declining your application and telling you not to bother reapplying

the admins reserve the right to add, remove or change the rules at any given time with absolutely no warning whatsoever
